This year, Heritage Open Days – England’s largest festival of culture and history – takes place between September 13-22, 2019.
It ties in with Halifax Heritage Festival – which runs through September – celebrating People Power.
Expect walks, talks and lots of events helping you to discover the exciting personalities and amazing stories that helped shape our town and heritage.

The Piece Hall Heritage Tours – September
Free guided tour around the colonnades delving into The Piece Hall’s captivating past.
September 13-15 and 20-22. 11am and 2pm
Special exhibition celebrating Halifax’s textile heritage.
September 12-October 13. 10am-6pm.
Guided Tour of Halifax Town Hall
Take a guided tour of this Grade II listed building, designed by the architect of the Houses of Parliament. Voted one of the Top 10 town halls in the country in 2008, it impresses visitors from across the world.
September 12 & 13. 11.30am & 2pm.
Free Entry to Calderdale Industrial Museum
Learn about Halifax’s industrial past and see a collection of industrial machinery and artifacts spread over four floors.
Experience the 19th century Mytholm Coal Mine and learn about world-famous Calderdale brands such as Mackintosh’s Toffees and Crossleys carpets.
September 14 & 15
Halifax Heritage Festival at The Artworks
Visit the artist studios, explore the Drawing Matters Exhibition and join in one of the workshops (priced individually).

Tours of Halifax Playhouse
See how a play is staged and have a look backstage during this theatre tour.
Sing along to our resident group The Playhouse and Gastric Band and enjoy some surprise ‘Horrible Halifax’ performances.
