Imagine being able to shop, enjoy a fashion show AND help families in need in Calderdale!
Well you can, at non-profit group Mothershare‘s first Fashion Show on Thursday (June 21).
Held at Lee Mount Social Club, the show – tickets are £5 – also includes supper, a tombola, raffle and stalls, all to raise funds for Mothershare, a wonderful organisation that passes donated baby clothes and equipment to families in need.
Mothershare works on a referral basis, from professional agencies such as WomenCentre, Family Intervention teams and Social Services.
All the donations – received from families throughout Calderdale – are sorted, checked and washed by Mothershare volunteers before being distributed to grateful families.
“These are families facing vulnerability through poverty, domestic violence, refugees/asylum seekers and young mums to name a few,” says Mothershare Founder Emmajayne Carter.
“This will be our first fashion show and we will be selling surplus baby clothing we have been donated, along with a large selection of women’s and maternity wear.
“We have designer brands and always-popular Disney branded clothing. A lot of the items are new with tags too.”
Volunteers will be modelling babies’, children’s, womenswear and maternity clothes, while stalls will sell clothing including designer and high-end brands such as Next and River Island.
There will also be stalls selling handmade candles, bathbombs and jewellery.
Every ticket-holder will be entered into a prize draw and receive a free supper. Meanwhile, raffle prizes range from airtime tickets, beauty treatments and restaurant vouchers.
“The purpose of the sale as well as helping families purchase affordable clothing, is to raise funds to help our service continue,” said Emmajayne. “Although our operating costs are quite low, we do have staffing and rent to cover.
“We are always in need of new matresses for cots and safety equipment, and funds will go towards purchasing these too.”
