There’s so much happening in Halifax and Calderdale over October half term! This year things are a little different, so always book ahead and check events are still on.
You’ll find most events listed below, and you can find even more information here, including Halloween parties and events, pumpkin picking and carving and autumnal crafting.

Spooky outdoor Halloween fun includes apple bobbin, Halloween crafts and potion making! Children will listen to a story, make crafts, learn about nature and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows around a campfire. Explore the woods, make dens, climb trees, relax in the hammocks, feed the chickens and have fun! Suitable for children aged 0-10 years. Tickets.
October 3 onwards, 2020
Head down to the farm and find your perfect pumpkin. Get creative at the carving shed (and leave the slimy pumpkin insides for the pigs), meet the animals then check out the other activities, such as barrel rides, corn maize and the corn blaster. 10am-5pm. More details to follow on 2020 plans.

Woodland adventure with lots of fun and mud, leading from the stepping stones to the Cavendish Pavilion.
This year, the trail is one way from Priory Church to the Cavendish Pavilion. Each piece of equipment on the Welly Walk can only be used by one family at a time, please wait until the equipment is empty before using.
Let your little ones put their balance skills to the test, scramble up nets, navigate the pole-to-pole and try their hardest to keep clean as they come down the slides! With many more obstacles in-between – it’s fun from start to finish!

Pick your pumpkin (they’ve got red, green, white, blue, black and yellow as well as orange!), see The ‘Green Witch’ and other fun characters.
If all that pumpkin picking makes you hungry, refuel with toffee apples, cinnamon doughnuts, gelato, crepes or other yummy treats.
Prices: Off-peak £2, peak £4, plus price of pumpkin. Under 3’s go free.

Pick your own pumpkin from the forbidden garden and carve it! See if you’re brave enough to enter the haunted house. Play on the indoor and outdoor play areas and visit the friendly animals.

Spooktaclar events, rides and attractions, including the Trick or Treat Trail (£3) with sweets and stickers at five locations around the park and Peter Rabbit’s Pumpkin Trail. Spooktacular Fireworks Displays October 14, 17, 24 & 31.

Head to Hesketh Fram Park this October for pumpkin carving (included in your ticket), a spooky quiz and the usual farmyard adventures. The staff will be dressing up each day, so why not come in your own fancy dress costume?

Head to Ponderosa this haunted half term and experience our Spook-tacular Halloween event!
Includes insect encounters, animal talks, a spooky broomstick trail, fancy dress competition and more! For more information and to pre-book your visit head to our website.
*Due to Covid-19 restrictions we ask that you bring your own pencil to take part in the spooky broomstick trail (or purchase one at our gift shop!).

The Terrifying Toddler special (October 19-22, 2020) will be hosted by a friendly Scare Crew, with ghostly goblins, petrifying pumpkins, wicked witches and scary snakes. You can meet all the animals and take part in egg collecting.

Enter the Spooky Maze, find the witches in the Enchanted Forest and make your own lantern with one of the thousands of pumpkins available at Stockeld. Each child will get a pumpkin free with their Halloween Forest and Maze tickets (then it’s £2.50 for extras)

Rock Halloween on wheels at Halifax YMCA’s Spooktacular Halloween Party. There are two parties to choose from; Friday, October 25, or Saturday, October 26, 2019. Both 6-8pm. Tickets cost £5 and include pizza or a hotdog, a spooky bun and a drink. Fancy dress optional, prizes for the best costumes.

Rides, attractions and spooktacular activities, this event is perfect for families with under 10 years. Trick or treat, a spooky walk through the Abandoned Theatre, a Ghost Spotter Trail, daily Fancy Dress competitions, ride on the Freaky Fairground and meet and greet some creepy characters.
Soak up the autumn light on a stroll from Fountains Abbey to Studley Royal Water Garden. The dramatic abbey ruins at Fountains are the largest monastic ruins in the country.
Autumn is a colourful time of year in Studley Royal water garden. Follow the gentle banks of the river skell down from the abbey to the garden, which has been channelled into canals, cascades and tranquil moon ponds. There is a real sense of peace on this walk.
Important Notice: The abbey, garden, play area, visitor centre shop and restaurant have reopened. You will need to book in advance.
October Half Term, 2020
Explore Leeds City Museum and follow a simple scavenger hunt to spot the joy in the teeny, tiny and tiddly things in the museum. You can print or write out the Scavenger hunt or pick up a sheet at the museum shop. Bring your own pencil!
Takeaway Tiny Craft Activity
Pick up a bag from the museum shop to do a free, teeny museum craft at home. We’ll do everything we can to minimise the risk with this, packing bags ahead of time, and making hand sanitiser available near the pick-up point.
Online Teeny Activity Idea
Tune in to our facebook page on 27 October to get create an outfit for your teddy. You’ll just need old clothes or fabric that can be cut up, and some string. You could make them a cape, a skirt or even a little bowtie!

Walk to the pumpkin patch to find your perfect pumpkin (free pumpkin for each paying child) then take it to the carving tent. There’s a Mysterious Maze, Bouncing Pillows, Crazy Golf, Farmyard Trail and visit The Beach to build a spooky sandcastle!

Timed entry tickets (must be booked online in advance) and a one way system will be operating. There will be hand sanitiser, screens etc and we ask you respect the 2m rule at all times. Masks may be required for certain activities.

Brave the giant spooky gates at the start of Strid Wood and follow the trail of over-sized pumpkins to discover mystery doors hidden among the trees.
Behind each door you’ll find a clue to help you unravel the witch’s magical spell and find a fun surprise at the end!

Follow the spooky skeletons trail around the estate and into the haunted house, while dressed up in your best Halloween costume.
You can download the trail or pick it up when you visit, along with downloadable Halloween craft activities to do at home and share on social media.
Our new visitor route through the servants quarters and historic rooms will be dressed to impress for Halloween.

Junior witches & wizards-in-the-making are invited to step aboard our spectacular steam train express!
Magical guests will help all the wannabe witches/wizards learn everything they need to know for a life of broomstick-riding, wand-waving & potion-making.
Numbers are strictly limited so booking is essential and available ONLINE ONLY this year.
Fancy dress is encouraged!

Don your spookiest Halloween costume and trick or treat around The Piece Hall shops! Children will be given Halloween bags and trail maps, and receive sweet treats from the shops. £2.50 per trail.
The best Halloween costume will win £20 worth of ice-cream from Blondins (enter by sharing a fancy dress picture on social media with the hashtag #HalloweenHall and tag The Piece Hall).
